Sofía Vergara filmed a cameo moment in her role as Odile Anjelou, but unfortunately the scene was ultimately deleted.
The fans were anxious about this one, but Katy Perry (photo below) confirmed at the 2012 Kids' Choice Awards that she will come back again to play (voice) the Smurfette.
This is actually Jonathan Winters' final acting performance.
As most know, this animation is based on the ‘Smurfs’ comic book series of the Belgian artist Peyo.
A bit of fascinating trivia for you: Peyo is a pen name / alias of Pierre Culliford, the guy who first created Smurfs in 1958. The word “Smurf” itself is in fact a Dutch translation of the French word "Schtroumpf", artificially invented, while eating with fellow cartoonist André Franquin, Peyo forgot the word salt.
This sequel of the tiny blue people follows the classic pattern: there exist more than one hundred Smurfs, and their names are based on adjectives that embody and personify their characteristics!
Smurfs 2 was directed (once again) by Raja Gosnell, with all the main cast coming back. Additions include Christina Ricci and J. B. Smoove ( playing the Naughties) and Brendan Gleeson.
This production is the second part of the planned Smurfs trilogy, produced by Sony Pictures Animation and consecutively distributed by Columbia Pictures.
